There is an image that gemstones are hard and durable, but unlike diamonds, colored stones are soft and can be easily scratched or chipped depending on the type. Emeralds, opals, and pearls in particular require special care.

There is a risk of it being scratched or chipped when it comes into contact with other gemstones or jewelry. Diamonds are also weak to forces coming from a certain direction, and depending on how they are hit, they may chip.Whenever possible, store them in a case or individually in a bag so that they do not come into contact with other items.
straightBe careful of sunlight and dryness
Each colored stone has different characteristics, so it is a good idea to know the characteristics of each stone.Amethyst, topaz, citrine, etc. are vulnerable to ultraviolet rays and will deteriorate, so avoid direct sunlight. Emeralds also need to be careful not to let them dry out, as the oil on their surface will dry out and cause them to crack. Opals and pearls can also discolor and crack if they dry out too much, so avoid putting desiccants in them.
So, basically, it's best to keep it in a jewelry box in a well-ventilated place where it won't come into contact with other items.
Cosmetics and perfumes can cause discoloration and deterioration, so be sure to put on your jewelry last after you finish getting dressed. Also, after wearing it, wipe it with a soft cloth as much as possible before storing it.
Neutral detergents and ultrasonic cleaning are also effective methods, but some gemstones are not suitable for this. In particular, ultrasonic cleaning should never be used on emeralds, so please be careful.
The characteristics of colored stones vary depending on the type. When purchasing, we recommend that you ask the staff how to store and care for the stone.
