Colored gemstones come in a wide variety of colors, and even gemstones of the same type can have different shades.
Take sapphire, for example. While it's strongly associated with the color blue, it actually comes in a variety of colors including pink, orange, and green. Even within the same mineral, those that are red are called rubies, but all others are sapphires.
Even among blue sapphires, each one has its own unique character, ranging from deep to light in color, and even having a purplish-blue hue. Each encounter with a particular gemstone is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Many customers come to Hojudo looking for colored gemstones.
Among these, many customers seem to choose based on the following four criteria, so please use this as a reference.

Choose one that suits your own style. The meanings of some representative gemstones are listed below, so please check them out if any catch your eye.4. NozomiChoose by gender
These are romantic gemstones discovered by explorers. Among them are gemstones that are rarely found, or whose mining has ceased. These rare stones continue to fascinate people with their rarity and beauty. Some are more expensive than diamonds, and their market prices have skyrocketed in recent years. We have compiled a list of representative rare stones and their characteristics.
Paraiba TourmalineOne of the three rarest gemstones, Paraiba tourmaline is captivating with its vibrant neon blue color. It originated in the Brazilian state of Paraíba, but large, high-quality Paraiba tourmalines are extremely rare. Therefore, Brazilian Paraiba tourmalines are very expensive, with high-quality specimens sometimes exceeding 1 million yen per carat. While they are also mined in Africa, the color is often paler, and they are traded at a lower price than Brazilian Paraiba tourmalines.

alexandriteOne of the three rarest gemstones, it is characterized by its color-changing effect. Often described as "emerald by day, ruby by night," it appears greenish in sunlight and changes to a purplish-red under incandescent light, making it captivating. Its dark and cool appearance makes it a popular gemstone among men as well. It is also designated as the birthstone for June and the 45th wedding anniversary. High-quality specimens with few inclusions and a clearly defined color-changing effect are valuable and command high prices.

Padparadscha sapphireOne of the three rarest gemstones, its appeal lies in its gentle pink-to-orange hues, reminiscent of a lotus flower (padparadscha). Since a stronger pink results in a pink sapphire and a stronger orange results in an orange sapphire, the rarity of the subtle intermediate shades is what makes it so popular, and its price is significantly higher.
However, since there is a wide range from pinkish to orangey, choose the shade that suits your preference.
Also, it's important to note that some gemological laboratories may classify sapphires as padparadscha, while others may not. The main sources are Sri Lanka and Madagascar. Like rubies and sapphires, they are usually heat-treated. However, beautiful unheated rubies and sapphires that don't require this treatment are rare and command high prices.
TanzaniteDiscovered in Tanzania in 1967, Tiffany&Named "Tanzanite" by Co., it quickly became popular. Tanzanite traded on the market is mined only in Tanzania. It is a stone similar to sapphire, but unlike sapphire, it appears purplish depending on the angle. In addition to the purplish-blue color, some specimens also exhibit pleochroic redness, giving them a mysterious appearance. It is also designated as the birthstone for December.

Chrysoberyl Cat's EyeA cat's eye gemstone exhibits a single streak of light (chatoyancy effect) resembling a cat's eye. While chatoyancy can also be seen in other gemstones such as alexandrite and aquamarine, chrysoberyl cat's eye is exceptional. Stones with a beautiful cat's eye line or those with a lustrous apple green or honey color are highly valued. It is the birthstone for February and a perfect gemstone for traditional Japanese attire.

HauyneThis rare gemstone, found only in Germany, boasts a beautiful, vibrant cobalt blue sparkle. Only small stones are produced, mostly under 0.1 carats. However, its vivid blue color makes it striking even under 0.1 carats, and it's used as an accent in jewelry. Its orange color when exposed to black light is also appealing. While it's a gemstone that tends to have a relatively high inclusion rate, stones with fewer inclusions and a deeper, more vibrant color command higher prices.

Imperial TopazWhile topaz is relatively inexpensive, Imperial Topaz is in a class of its own. As the name suggests, it is considered the emperor of topaz. Most of it comes from Brazil. Normally, topaz is treated artificially, but Imperial Topaz is not treated in this way, and its attractive reddish-orange-pinkish sherry color is captivating.Imperial topaz comes in many colors, but bright, vibrant, and reddish varieties are particularly highly valued.

Rubies, sapphires, and emeralds—the three most popular colored gemstones—are also given names when they are of particularly high quality. These gemstones with special names have a high market value and are traded at high prices.
*While there are many gemological laboratories worldwide, some are more prone to producing specially designated gems. Since standards vary among laboratories, we recommend purchasing gems with a certificate from a reputable laboratory.
Pigeon Blood RubyRuby is a quintessential colored gemstone known to everyone. Only the "red" variety of the same mineral is called ruby; all other colors are called sapphires. Among these, only rubies with high transparency and a deep, beautiful red color are called pigeon blood rubies, and their value increases significantly. Furthermore, unheated stones from Myanmar (formerly Burma) are the most expensive.

Royal Blue Sapphire / Cornflower SapphireSapphires come in a variety of colors besides blue, including pink, orange, yellow, and violet. Among them, blue sapphires are the most representative. Of these, those with a strong, vivid, deep blue color are called "royal blue" and are considered to be of the highest quality. Sapphires with a lighter, more vibrant color than royal blue are called "cornflower." These also fetch higher prices than regular blue sapphires. Similar to rubies, unheated stones from Myanmar (formerly Burma) are even more valuable.

Non-oil EmeraldEmeralds are gemstones that often contain inclusions. Therefore, impregnation treatment is used to minimize the appearance of inclusions and increase clarity. Most emeralds undergo this treatment, but non-oiled emeralds are beautiful even without it. Their rarity and increased durability significantly boost their price. Colombian emeralds are even more valuable.
