unlucky year
厄年・還暦
At the milestones of life, you can use the jewelry from time to time.

"Please stay healthy from now on."

An unlucky year is an ancient Japanese custom that refers to a year in which people are more likely to suffer from physical or environmental disasters.
It has been a tradition in both the East and the West to wear certain gemstones as amulets since ancient times. Give a special piece of jewelry as a celebration. Pass a milestone and welcome a new life.

Unlucky years and ward off bad luck

For women, the ages are 19, 33, 37, and 61 (kanreki) in the traditional Japanese age system, and for men, the ages are 25, 42, and 61 (kanreki). It is said that it is good to give someone who is approaching their unlucky year something that is long, seven-colored, round, or red as a talisman to ward off bad luck.

60th birthday (61 years old)

Turning 60 (61 by the traditional Japanese age reckoning system) is also a year when kanreki (60th birthday) and an unlucky year overlap. In the past, people would celebrate with a lavish red kimono (chanchanko) to ward off evil spirits, but nowadays red gemstones (ruby, coral, etc.) are popular instead.
