This is because extremely high dimensional accuracy is required when the parts are superimposed.
If the dimensions are off even slightly, the plate may not fit or may move.
This EIVOU ring allows for micro-level adjustments.

Furthermore, the base that holds the plate in place uses magnets instead of screws.
This makes it easy to remove and replace plates.
